Year 6 Fossils

Year 6 had good fun creating and excavating our own fossils! We started by moulding clay in to a circle, then used a shell to leave an imprint in the clay. We then filled the mould with plaster of Paris and covered it with sand. After a week, the clay and plaster had dried and we could begin the excavation process. We used all sorts of tools, including tooth picks, hammers, paint brushes, scrapers and pipettes. Then finally we unveiled our fossils and used magnifying glasses to identify the shell that made the fossil. The whole class loved it!

Celebration Assembly

Contrary to the calendar there will be no Celebration assembly this week as Owls will be performing their Great Fire of London play. We will let you all know when the next Celebration Assembly will be.

Oxfordshire Book Awards

Some of the year 5 and 6 children had the opportunity last week to go to the Oxfordshire book Awards. This was a fantastic event, where we got to hear from many of the authors and in many cases meet them at the signing afterwards. Neil in year 6 had the opportunity to introduce one of the authors to the audience and did fantastically. The school are once again taking part in the book awards this year and we look forward to reviewing many of the books on the 2016 long list.

Remembrance Day

Mr Attree and some of the children laid a wreath at the Remembrance service in Watlington last Sunday. It was fantastic to see so many of the children at the service either watching or taking part with other organisations. It was a real opportunity to show that future generations will never forget the sacrifices of all those who laid down their lives for us and all of the children did us proud.

Mr Attree and two of the year 6 children also went to the memorial for the 2 minutes silence on Wednesday, along with many other people from the town, to represent the school, whilst the other children held a minutes silence on the playground.

Remembrance Week

All week this week, we've been looking at the different aspect of Remembrance. Red Kites were lucky enough to have a visit from Mrs Wyndham-Smith, who brought in some incredible items that belonged to Georgie's grandfather during the war.

The children enjoyed this hands-on experience and it really helped them to relate to this part of our history.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Wyndham-Smith for her time.

Remembrance Assembly Friday 2.15pm
