Red Kites

On Monday we had PE with our new PE teacher Mr Everett. We learning how to play basketball and we played some games to practise our dribbling with the ball.

In maths we were learning about equivalent fractions and how to find them.  We wrote as many equivalent fractions as we could on balloons.  We also worked on 'Farming Fractions' – ensuring two brothers got an equal share of their farm.

In English we were planning persuasive propaganda posters with a short message to encourage people to take in evacuees from London during World War II.  We designed posters and wrote Ministry of Information captions for pictures of evacuees.

In DT we investigated shelters.  We made Anderson shelters from nets and had a go at building shelters from sheets.  Some teams were more successful than others…

On Wednesday morning there was a football tournament at RAF Benson for year 3/4 and 5/6. The 3/4 won all of their games whereas 5/6 lost to Ewelme. Both teams got a good result though!

The Living Rainforest

Foxes, Badgers and Hares had a great day exploring The Living Rainforest. We were treated to a guided tour of their 'greenhouse' Rainforest and had the chance to see many of the Rainforest animals and plants we have been learning about in our topic. Some of our favourites included; turtles, poison dart frogs, an armadillo and toucans.

This week Red Kites have been learning about...

In English we have been reading Goodnight Mr Tom.  We have written some pieces based on it such as a letter to Mrs Beech, a narrative describing William's arrival in Little Weirwold and a diary entry.  Some of our work will go on display soon.

We've been trying out all sorts of dances in our PE lessons. This week we created some Bollywood dance routines.

In science we have been learning about solids, liquids and gases and reversible and irreversible changes. This week we looked at dissolving sugar in water.   Each group planned their own fair test to find factors that affect the speed that sugar dissolves at.

Art week in Red Kites

During art week Red Kites has been learning about surrealism.  We found out about famous artists, created our own names for surreal artworks and on Wednesday we made some of our own surreal art, here are some pictures:

Art Open Morning

We had a fantastic morning showing you our art work, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing what the children have been learning during art week so far.

Many thanks to all who came  to see us and for getting involved. It was great to see the children taking such pride in their work and producing some brilliant pieces of art.

Here are some highlights from the morning.
