Another successful day here at Castle Head, accompanied by
glorious sunshine and warm weather.
The day began with a celebration – Lottie’s
11th birthday, and after presents and singing over breakfast, we
quickly grabbed our wellies and set off to our first activities. One group
started by raft building on the River Winster, which flows through the grounds
of the centre, where we worked together to build a raft strong enough to hold
11 children (and Mr Gale!!). After being instructed how to paddle successfully,
we competed against another school – and won by miles!!
The second activity of the day was the high challenges,
where we pushed ourselves to our limits, climbing up a ‘telegraph’ pole,
sharing the tiny platform (about the size of a tea tray) at the top with three
of our friends, before jumping off in to the air. Predictably, laughter and
screams spread across the centre. This was followed by attempting to climb
Jacob’s ladder, which was rather wobbly.
This evening’s entertainment was bush craft, followed by hot
chocolate and birthday cake around the camp fire, with bats flying overhead.
All of the children are now in bed and are ready for a good
night’s sleep. Our cases are almost completely packed and we will be setting
off at midday tomorrow.
Our estimated arrival time back at school is 5.45pm and we
will keep the blog updated with any significant changes to this time.
